We love Hautefort! A very well restored chateau in a beautiful setting. Queen Elizabeth, the Queen mother stayed here for a night. There is a small coffee shop serving hot and cold drinks (including draught beer!) and savoury and sweet crepes. Open from April to November. About a 35 minute drive north from Sergeac.

Situated along the Dordogne valley not far from Beynac, Chateau des Milandes is well worth a visit. Josephine Baker, the singer lived here in the 1940’s and 50’s. The Chateau contains lots of memorabilia and information about her extraordinary life. There is also a falconry display 3 times a day in the grounds. Their website contains useful information such as opening times, entry prices etc.

One of the ‘famous five’ chateaux in the heart of the Dordogne Valley. It is truly majestic and stands very tall above the village of Beynac which hugs the Dordogne river. Walk up through the village and pay a visit. It is awe inspiring! And the views are fantastic. There is an English audio-guide available. Parking is in the village below or further up near the castle. Open all year round.

A delightful place to spend an afternoon. There are some really interesting clocks and artefacts from days gone by and there are great views from the tower which has an amazing roof structure. The dragon and his friends will entertain the children in the attic of the manor and don’t forget to look for the giant cedar tree in the garden. One of the oldest in France. Open from April to November.

The open air restaurant and tea room is excellent too. Serves light lunches, tea and cakes, cold drinks and ice creams. Open 1st of April until the 1st of November. On Thursday evenings in July and August they have a candlelit event.

This is a lovely place to wander round for an hour or so.  The gardens have been created on an old Gallo-Roman site which slopes down to the River Dordogne. They have an amazing collection of water lilies and there are beautiful views at every turn.

The refreshments available are limited to a vending machine for cold drinks and ice creams.

Open all day, every day May to September.
